EnChroma Lenses Available at Family Focus Eyecare

Updated: Jul 8, 2019

Family Focus Eyecare is excited to be one of three offices in Saskatchewan to carry EnChroma.

EnChroma offers both indoor and outdoor glasses to correct colour confusion that patients with colour deficiency experience. With EnChroma you have the option to order a complete pair of frame and lenses, or lenses for an existing frame! Choose between non-prescription, single vision, or progressive lenses.

Colour Deficiency - who is affected and what is it?

1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women are colour deficient.

There are three cones in our retina that help us perceive colour. Colour deficiency occurs when there is an overlap of these three cones.

There are three forms of colour deficiency. Deutan is the reduced sensitivity to green light; Protan is the reduced sensitivity to red light; and Tritan is the reduced sensitivity to blue light. Unlike deutan and protan which are genetically-linked, tritan is often caused by blunt trauma or eye-related diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetes.

What to Expect from EnChroma

Only 1 out of 5 patients will have an immediate reaction upon wearing EnChroma glasses.

3 out of 5 reactions will vary after a 20 minute adjustment period.

1 out of 5 patients see no improvement. If the cones have too much of an overlap, the lenses are unable to filter the overlap.

How does EnChroma work?

EnChroma lenses remove the bandwidth of wavelengths where an overlap between cones occurs. This removes colour confusion by providing the brain with stronger red and green signals.

Who are Ideal Candidates for EnChroma?

Patients who are deutan (green) or protan (red) deficient.

Note: EnChroma will not assist in jobs where colour vision is required.

How can you determine if you're a good candidate for EnChroma Lenses?

Visit EnChroma's website today to take their online colour vision test. It will determine the type of colour deficiency and its extent, along with the percentage of EnChroma lenses working for you. From there you can contact our office any time to book an appointment with one of our frame stylists and trial EnChroma lenses yourself!
