What is Myopia?

Myopia, also known as near-sightedness, is an eye condition that makes distant objects appear blurry and is caused by the eye growing too quickly. This can make activities like seeing the board at school or watching TV at home difficult. While regular glasses can correct blurred vision, they are not the complete solution to managing myopia; if left unmanaged, it may continue to progress and grow with time.

Risk Factors

01

It's Hereditary
Children with myopia parents are at a higher risk of developing myopia themselves.

02

Age of Onset
The earlier the onset of myopia, the higher the likelihood of myopia progressing faster and further as time goes on.

03

Near Tasks
More than 2 hours a day of close-vision tasks like screen time and reading can lead to faster and higher risk of myopia progression!

04

Outdoor Time
Spending less than 2 hours a day outdoors can contribute to accelerated myopia progression as well.

Why is Management Essential?

SHORT-TERM GOAL

Slowing progression through myopia management can result in less frequent prescription changes, meaning better vision for your child between eye exams!

LONG-TERM GOAL

Reduce the risk of eye diseases and vision impairment in adulthood.
